It’s too bad Lust didn’t know that Fury believed to have defeated Envy earlier already, or else they might have had a solid bargaining chip. Last but not least, and again: SPOILERS, the sheer balls on this sin, for looking straight at Fury’s Watcher while talking about how Envy is a snivelling coward and the weakest of the sins and basically offering her head to Fury on a silver platter. The gratuitous French in one of their lines only makes it better (”We could have been the ultimate power couple… C’est la vie…”) What else is there to like? Oh, right, the battle banter! What I said about Lust looking bored while fighting Fury? Their entire battle banter is just one stealth insult after the other and I love how they play on the typical depiction of Lust as The Sexy™, by having Lust sound like a spurned lover (”You reject me, but dally with angels? I’m offended!”). I think the smug look on their face says it all: Lust was pretty much doing the equivalent of boredly filing their nails while saying “oh, it was worth a shot”.Īnd of course, the second time, with Usiel, it actually works. Even better, they don’t even sound mad when Fury destroys the illusion. Hell, if they hadn’t made Fury’s brothers kneel, they would have gotten away with it. SPOILERS here for those who haven’t played, but kudos to Lust for seeing right through Fury and pushing all her insecurity triggers by dangling leadership of the horsemen right in front of her. I know Pride is supposed to be the smug bitch in this story, but seriously, Lust is giving her a run for her money, because through the entire fight they move as if they are just completely bored and done with Fury.Īnd then there’s the illusions. I have not dodged too early nearly as many times with any other boss in this game. Lust moves with a grace that is beautiful to behold and even though their attacks look slow, they hit pretty hard and fast. And don’t even get me started on the sword, because that shit is ornate and stylish without looking like it will break if you hit a scarecrow with it.Īnd then there is Lust’s fighting style.

But aside from the helmet? Damn, I love that costume! I love how it looks like Lust basically went and slew a black-and-gold dragon and is now wearing its skin as spoils of victory. Secondly, lets get back to that costume design again for a minute, okay? That is gold and black battle gear with a badass cape, the bling of war and an admittedly rather ridiculous looking helmet.

As Fury put it: Lust is everything to everyone. Male? Female? Who knows? Who cares? Lust certainly doesn’t. Lust is flat as an anvil, wears heels, has a female face with a distinctly male chin, was voiced by a man, yet sounds like a woman, and is consistently referred to by everyone in story as they/them. First of all, Lust in Darksiders III is about as genderfluid a human-looking character as I’ve seen all year.

Oh Lust… How many times have I consumed media with the Seven Sins in them, only to find out that you were nothing but a brain-dead pair of boobies? I started playing Darksiders III firmly expecting that Lust would turn out to be yet another Evil Jessica Rabbit clone, so imagine my surprise when I saw this:Īnd for the record: this is a good surprise! I love Darksiders’ Lust.
